Opera Scholars Australia
Opera Scholars Australia is a leading professional development program for young classical singers, providing unparalleled performance opportunities for talented young artists. Each year, up to 25 Opera Scholars Australia scholarships are offered to classical singers ages between 18-24. The program provides an extensive and consistent schedule of performance preparation and opportunities across Victoria and in regional South Australia.
At the OSA Aria Concert, held in October, three scholars are nominated as finalists to be considered for the Opera Scholar of the Year. Each of the three singers chosen are given an opportunity to perform a solo at Opera in the Alps in January. One of the three will be selected to sing their winning aria at Opera in the Market as Opera Scholar of the Year. The winning Scholar will be presented with a prize of $5,000 donated by Betty Amsden AO.
The three finalists who are competing for Scholar of the Year for 2017 are (below L-R):
Madeleine Crombie - Soprano
Shakira Dugan - Mezzo Soprano
Cleo Lee-McGowan - Soprano
