Recipient of the Garry Canning Scholarship 

After graduating from the Melbourne Conservatorium in 2017, Michael has been forging a pathway in his operatic career under the guidance of Roger Howell and is delighted to be offered a scholarship for his second season of Opera Scholars Australia.

Alongside the Opera Scholars Program, Michael is also a part of the Richard Divall Emerging Artist Program, seeing him perform, cover roles, and take part in intensive workshops. Michael is also a member of the Victorian Opera chorus.

Through the generosity of the Opera Scholars Program, Michael has been given opportunities to perform in featured ensembles at Opera in the Alps and Voices in the Twilight, Beechworth, Opera in the Market, Melbourne as well as coaching sessions with Tiffany Speight, John Bolton Wood and Yvonne Kenny AM.

Other recent engagements include: covering Don Basilio/Curzio in Australian International production’s China Tour of Le Nozze di Figaro, covering The Steersman in Melbourne Opera's Die Fliegender Holländer, The Gondolier in Melbourne Opera's Otello, The Innkeeper in Melbourne Opera's Der Rosenkavalier, The Shepherd in Melbourne Opera's Tristan und Isolde. Michael was the tenor soloist in Mozart by Moonlight for both 2018 and 2019 as well as the tenor soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah for the Essendon Choral Society. Michael has also taken part in Victorian Opera's productions of Parsifal, I Capuletti e i Montecchi and Guillaume Tell as chorus.

In 2019 Michael is looking forward to being involved with Opera Scholars Australia and the Richard Divall Emerging Artist program with Melbourne Opera. Michael is striving towards enhancing his craft, focusing on vocal development, languages and repertoire.
