About Opera in the Market

For one memorable night, the historic Queen Victoria Market will be transformed into a theatre like no other - the famous fruit & veg stalls will make way for front stalls as Opera in the Market takes centre stage. You'll enjoy all the drama and spectacle of some of the world's favourite operas as you sample fine wines, and wonderful food from a selection of Melbourne's famous food vans which will be available to purchase preconcert and during interval.

Come and indulge your passions with renowned soprano Cheryl Barker, thrilling tenor Shanul Sharma and exciting baritone Jeremy Kleeman.

Joining them will be 50 piece Orchestra, Opera Scholars Australia and a spectacular 100-voice choir conducted by popular ABC presenter Guy Noble.

This Australian Music Events celebration will take place on Monday 27 February 2017 and proceeds support Opera Scholars Australia and St Vincent's Hospital.

Join us from 5.30pm when doors open to general public who can enjoy a selection of food and fine wine that will be available to purchase.  The Opera will commence at 7.45pm and the evening will include a 40 minute interval and concludes by 10.15pm.

Getting here by Train

The Queen Victoria Market is within easy walking distance of Melbourne Central and Flagstaff stations.

• From Melbourne Central Station take Elizabeth Street exit and walk north along Elizabeth Street to until you reach the Queen Victoria Market

• From Flagstaff Station exit on corner of Latrobe and William Street and walk north along William Street until you reach the Queen Victoria Market

Getting here by Bus

Melbourne's buses travel along Queen, Lonsdale and La Trobe Streets. Alight on Queen Street or on Lonsdale or LaTrobe the Queen or Elizabeth Street corners, and walk north to the Queen Victoria Market.

Getting here by Car

From Melbourne CBD head west on Bourke towards Galleria Plaza, right at Queen Street, left then right on Franklin Street, slight left at Queen Street.


On-site paid parking available off Queen Street for cars.
