About St Vincent’s

St Vincent’s is part of Australia’s largest not-for-profit healthcare network. We are governed by a national body, St Vincent’s Health Australia under the direction of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.

St Vincent’s provides acute medical and surgical services, emergency and critical care, aged care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, mental health, palliative care and residential care. We have more than 5,000 staff, an operating budget of $491 million and 848 beds.

For 117 years, under the leadership of the Sisters of Charity and now Mary Aikenhead Ministries,

St Vincent’s has been providing the highest standards of care driven by our concern for others, especially those in need. This focus permeates every aspect of our work, guided by the values of compassion, justice, human dignity, excellence and unity.

We excel across a broad spectrum from neurosurgery and surgical oncology to aged psychiatry and Aboriginal health. We have an enviable reputation as an employer of choice for nursing graduates and our employees’ results in medical and surgical examinations are second to none.

St Vincent’s works with collaborative partners to deliver high quality treatment, teaching, education and research. Our partners include the University of Melbourne, St Vincent’s Institute, the O’Brien Institute, the Bionic Ear Institute, Eastern Palliative Care and the Australian Catholic University.

St Vincent's Foundation was established in 1998 to initiate and coordinate fundraising activities for the support of the hospital and its related services. The Foundation provides an important link between St Vincent’s and individual donors, corporate and business sector supporters, community groups, external trusts and foundations, sponsors and those wishing to leave a legacy or gift in their Will.

Where the proceeds will go

Dialysis remains a daunting prospect for our patients, many of who come in to the hospital for this life-threatening treatment .....three times a week for five hour sessions.

Can you imagine fitting this into your daily life! Now imagine the difference in balancing the demands of treatment with those of daily life by doing Home Dialysis.

Net proceeds from Opera in the Market 2013 will support the equipment needs of St Vincent’s Dialysis at Home Program offering patients a much better health outcome and personal independence.
