Benjamin Northey
Australian conductor Benjamin Northey studied at the University of Melbourne under John Hopkins. He was the highest-placed international applicant to the Sibelius Academy conducting class in Helsinki and subsequently was awarded the jury’s highest mark for his concert with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra. He won the Young Australian Conductor of the Year with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2001. He made his professional debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2003, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg in 2005 and is currently Principal Conductor of the Australia Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. He was recently chosen to work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and will return for 2008 season of Opera in the Alps and Opera in the Market.
